The Problem About the Bug on OxygenOS 10 on Oneplus 5 and Its Solution

I could say that 26th June 2017 was the day worth remembering, when it was roughly a week after OnePlus released their new smartphone, OnePlus 5. It was likely that OnePlus 5 has the honour to be considered as the crown among Android phones in Mainland China at that time when she was sold out in a few minutes on the official website so easily that I could not buy one. Instead, I had no choice but purchased her from a scalper for an extra ¥200 or so, with an 8 + 128 GB storage. It meant that I could no longer use second-hand phones from my family and finally got my own phone. That was the story before something weired happened...

In my opinion, OnePlus 5 was a miracle with the highest standard of hardware in Android. Nowadays, I am thinking that she is more and more of value compared with other phones with strange designs such as curved display and notch display. In addition, the difference between Mainland China and Overseas in the field of Android has become striking, which make me concerned. How long shall we await the under-screen camera? How many of us know how to use Google.com instead of only knowing Google.com, even com.hk? (Well, I know that this is an interest individually.)

Preface

Oxygen OS 10.0.0 based on Android 10 was officially pushed to my phone around 15th June 2020. I was really happy and updated the system. Because of the breaking change, I lost all of my configuration and had to set up again, but it cost little. In a word, I appreciate OnePlus that they care about old users, pushing the latest OS although Android 10 has been released for a while. Thank them.

Problem

I could not imagine this bug before it happened to me that the recorder in my Phone APP did not work properly. It could hardly record any voice during the call. Unfortunately, I got my urgent issue to deal with and had to rely on the record but, as you know, there was nothing but weird noise in the record file.

Practicing

There is a word: “Buying new gets 100% fixed, and reinstallation of system gets 80% fixed.” Debugging all the hardware and finding out nothing, I supposed that there were probably malfunctions between hardware and software so I decided to restore factory setting.

However, it went wrong again when I was installing my softwares and suddenly recalled to have a check. I made a phone call and heard its record, finding nothing except noise. It upset me. Everything was gone and it was just wasting my time.

At that time I thought that the root of reason was the software. To avoid restoring factory setting, I chose to install apps only from Play Store and deleted all the apps not from Play Store. Well, it worked. The record came back normally.

Thinking

So, WHY did the call recorder go wrong and it record nothing but noise? Actually I did not know the reason. Maybe it was the differences and malfunctions between the system and the software. Basically from my perspective, Island.apk and Greenify.apk caused the problem. Without any offence, I appreciate their authors developing such great apps for Android users. Well, it is likely that the time had changed… Anyway, I installed apps from Play Store only, which really solved my problem, temporarily.

Update

It was proved that I had been totally wrong! Testing all the apps, I found that none of them caused any issue.

By accident I noticed Google Assistant causing the malfunction. After its voice recognition was turned off, everything worked fine including the call recorder. It could be the system.

Conclusion

  1. Follow the law and install apps only from official Play Store.

  2. Step by step and keep every record.

Update Again

OnePlus has released Oxygen OS 10.0.1 focusing on coping with this bug. That is awsome… I have been awaitng for a long time.
