For Those Who Are New to Christianity

When it comes to the interesting but also complicated part of “diving into the local culture” life style, it can be considered to be Christianity, especially in the context of western world where Anglo-Saxon culture dominates. On the other hand, there is an increasing trend that Christianity becomes popular across different nations. To be precise, this post refers Christianity to Protestant Christianity but it is also worth being noticeable that this post aims to take that Protestant Christianity as an example to draw something that seems to be a sensible conclusion.

As a Chinese speaker, who was previously proclaiming themselves as an atheist, for instance, and they were Author of this post, may find it hard to persuade themselves to be convinced the origin of universe explained by Christianity. Basically, Christianity considers Bible as an ultimate reference for everything and Bible says that the universe has been made by God in seven days, which is expectedly a story almost known by people around the world.

In a short word, I could not persuade myself and I finally gave up arguing with myself, just taking two, one of which is a very scientific theory on how the universe originates and another of which is the bibilical theory about God creates the world and, of course, the first male and female. It has taken a quite long time to process the settlement of conflict but I believe I have made it. Sadly, I sometimes have to admit that that kind of attitude is exactly how I treated ideological education at school. After all, utilitarianism can be one of the essence of Chinese culture which indicates people believe it because they can survive with a mouth of rice depending on it. (Sorry for the Chinglish sort of saying but it can be real most of the time.)

So, with those words above, it is recommended that people should observe things before commenting them with careful caution. In fact, not all contents of Christianity are well known by Chinese speakers so there might be misunderstandings if people are lack of patience when they learn or see. People tend to be aware of the basic stories in the Bible but, for example, not familiar with New Testaments, which is generally the second part of Bible, the crucial section authorised by Jesus, who is considered to the God humanised in the human world and brings salvation to his people.

Please be noticed that this post can be casually written in some places so it is not advised to get stuck with one or two particular words or lexical resources but it may be more reasonable to focus on the general meaning of this passage.

Nevertheless, evangelism in Christianity is considered to be a crucial part of Christian life. It simply means that the gospel is being spreaded by preaching or witness. In a word, people talk about God’s words and Jesus’ preaching in the church and people share God’s love with others outside the church. Therefore, a Christian may seize every opportunity to promote Christianity because it is written in the Bible telling Christian to do so and it has been treated as a mission carried on with them since they have become Christians. You may say it is like an instinct. Some can accept it and some cannot but it is what it is.

I might be discussing this topic in a very casual way so it is not easy to grasp the main idea but I assume it can be stopped here. I think I should have been more cautious when structuring this post but I am losing my time management at the moment. That is my sin anyway.

It should be understood that believing in something can be private for some people, especially those who have been living in Mainland China for a quite long time and have accepted the idea on the liberty of citizens allowed to believe in anything as they wish based on the law and regulation. Evangelism is acceptable but it can be unacceptable if the activities occur outside churches, temples or any other religious places that are allowed to do so. In the light of evangelism with a wise way of promotion, it would be more recommended to evangelise people in a way that they accept rather than impulsing something on them. By doing so, non-believers may feel being more respected and are more willing to know about God through Jesus. It is similar for other religions, maybe.

Christmas is coming and so does the new year. Let’s celebrate the birth of Jesus and pray for the salvation for people and the everlasting love and grace given to people.
